Why Does My PC Monitor Keep Flickering On And Off?

  • The Monitor I have is probably 6 years old. If not more. It was given to me by my father. It use to make a really weird noise so thats what caused my father to get a new one. After awhile the noise stopped so he let this guy at his work use it. Then i got a new computer and he brought it home to me. I noticed as soon as I hooked it up it started flickering on and off let it was refreshing itself. Except the power on the monitor was turning on and off. He said his co-worker never had problems with it. That was last november. now if i am on it for about an hour it will start flickering. it will flickering 5 times and then it stops for about 2 min. then it starts again. It forces me off the computer. why and how do i fix it?

    maybe it cannot be fixed - first question, is it CRT or LCD? when you say it made a weird noise (if it is CRT) that could be EHT arcing inside, which can be due to dust and moisture. Have you checked all power and video connections are tight? 6 years is a good age for a monitor that been used at home, and at work.

I think you should take it to a computer speacialist . You might have to get a new monitor but take it to a computer speacialist just to make sure everything is ok they might be able to fix it . It might be a little costy but if it were my monitor I would immediately go get it fixed before it gets worse... I wish you much luck !

Your monitor is going bad, probably time to get a new one. Some of the older monitors are not compatible with newer PCs and could cause it to flicker, do weird stuff or just not turn on @ all.
