Why Does My Screen Flicker on and Off while Playing Games?

Black Screen When Playing New Games (Windows 7)?

  • Hi! I've got myself a brand new computer few days ago. I did not encounter any problems until I started playing Assassin Creed and Dragon Age: Origins. It let me play Assassin's Creed for about 1 hour (the tutorial before you go find the traitor) when suddenly, without any warning, my screen went black (no signal) and "ddrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" -sound could be heard from the stereos and my computer became unresponsive. The only way was to reboot it from the button. After that the same thing started happening every time I tried to get past the menu of the game (it has crashed in the settings menu, too). I've tried changing resolutions and graphic settings, switching to a different monitor and updating my graphic drivers but nothing has solved the problem so far. I also reinstalled both games, it only let me play AC to the end of the tutorial before crashing again. :( The same problem happened in Dragon Age Origins until I switched the game to the windowed mode. It has only crashed twice after that. Weird. I've tried to find a solution from internet but haven't found one that worked. Some say that it might be because of over heating, but my computer temperatures are normal (from 40-55c) and the highest has been 79c for the video card. So I dont think that is the problem. My little sister played Sims2 with the highest graphic settings for few hours and there were no black screen of death, everything went very smoothly, even if my computer warned that it has known compatibility problems with windows 7. SO I'm assuming that the problem is with newer games that have more demanding system requirements, but my computer should NOT have problems running them! :( I seen that the only way to fix this is to send the computer to be repaired but I really cant wait to get a new one due work. That is the main reason why I'm looking for an alternative option. I cant open my computer and check if the video card is correctly put in, in case I have to return the computer, but if you see that it should be necessary please say so, it might help someone else with this same problem. By the way, DVDs work without problems. Here are my specs: * AMD Phenom X4 9850B processor * 8GB DDR2 RAM * 1TB SATA hard drive * nVidia GT130 768MB * Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Thank you in advance! Hopefully this can be solved. I bought this computer mainly because I could play NEW games on it. :(
