Why does my LG monitor not turn on?

How to set horizontal sync range on my CPU for my monitor?

  • I bought a LG LCD monitor to replace my old CRT monitor. i did change the monitor settings on my computer to the right resolution and right refresh rate. However when i turn on my computer every time, there would be no signal once windows is loaded and it says "OUT OF RANGE 93.5kHz/75 Hz". I need to turn off the power of my CPU and try turning it on again before my monitor will work. Sometimes i need to turn on and off my CPU for up to 4 times, before my monitor works. I believe this refers to the horizontal and vertical sync range of the monitor. Acoording to the LG website the horizontal sync range is 30-83 kHZ and the vertical sync range is 56 - 75 Hz. So it seems that it is the horizontal sync range that is out. My question is how do i set the horizontal sync range on my computer. My windows system is Windows XP Professional.

  • Answer:

First, LCD monitors need to be at 60hz. Unlike CRT displays, raising the refresh rate does not do you any good on a LCD display. Reboot the computer and hit the "F8" key a bunch of times right before the "WIndows XP" logo screen pops up. This will bring up the menu for safe mode and other such options. Select "Enable VGA Mode" and hit enter. This will boot to windows using the default resolution that all monitors can display. Then, go into display properties again and just set the resolution to what you need it to be. Don't mess with the refresh rate. When you change the refresh rate, it automatically sets the horzontal proportional to the vertical. If you set it to 75hz the Hsync is going to go to that 93.5 khz because that is what it needs to be to be proportional to the vertical refresh rate.. You should only be running the refresh rate at 60hz. Thats all your monitor can display, raising it to 75hz will not give you ANY benefit on an LCD monitor.
