Why is there no sound coming from my monitor?

Why is there a crackling sound coming out of my desktop monitor's speakers when I play on my MIDI keyboard?

  • Ok, I'm going to elaborate more this time to make it perfectly clear. I'm talking about the speakers that are part of the monitor, on the bottom right and left hand corners of the frame - not separate entities plugged in- which I have, but the crackling still comes through them as well.

    If it only happens when you use the MIDI keyboard then I think its probably noise being picked up due to a poor quality connection or cables.

I agree with nick, low quality cables can produce a crackling sound. Also if your computer speakers aren't very good that could be the problem (thats whats wrong with my guitar amp :[ )

Chiming in almost nothing: If the speakers sound fine playing back a youtube clip, or streaming radio, etc, it is almost certainly the cable. Have you also checked the midi piano itself via earphones or their own speaker, unplugged from any computer connection? Edit Add: check computer sound outlet with earphones as well...again, with speakers unplugged. The monitor speakers???!!! They won't be anywhere near good enoough. Even standard add-on speakers will be pretty poor. How are you getting the MIDI in? USB? What sequencer are you using. The best way is to get a good soundcard and take the output from the sequencer/soundcard to an amp and hi-fi speakers.
