What can I use an old computer for?

Can i use a 7 year old monitor with a new computer?

  • okay so i was using my computer and i turned off my monitor and then i turned it back on and it wouldn't show anything on the screen. i tried restarting my computer multiple times and i also reconnected everything in the back of my desktop. So nothing worked and though the monitor was broken or something so i grabbed this monitor outta my closet that i got when i bought my first computer like 7 years ago. So i hooked it up to my computer and now i can see stuff on my monitor but i don't know if it will hold up. So can i use my old monitor with my new computer or will it mess up when i try to do something wit newer graphics?

  • Answer:

Yes as long as the computer has the standard VGA (blue jack) and not the HD(white jack)

yes you may have to buy an adapter to fit your video card, but any monitor will work.

you will be fine.

It'll work fine. Just keep in mind a 7 year old monitor isn't going to look as good as something new. Other than that, it's perfectly capable of displaying everything just fine.

Mercuri

It will work fine! :) However, the Resolution will not be able to go near as high.

Best thing you can do is view your old monitor in it's native resolution. Go to your properties and adjust if needed.

you are right. you could use it. But how many days and for what purpose. Better try to upgrade it to feel the presence on the market.
