Can I use dual monitors?

Can I use dual monitors on a TV without a VGA port?

  • I just bought a 46 inch TV and I've been wanting to display my laptop on it. My laptop has a VGA port but my TV does not. It only has HDMI ports. I know my video card supports dual monitors.

  • Answer:

You would need a VGA to HDMI adapter, but yes.

You CANNOT connect a laptop's ANALOG VGA port to an HDTV's DIGITAL HDMI port. That will NEVER work. Don't even think it. You CANNOT directly connect an ANALOG port to a DIGITAL one. Analog is NOT compatible with Digital, no matter what cable you try to use. Those HDMI-VGA adapter cables will NEVER work. They are meant for video cards that have a specially-built HDMI port capable of sending out an analog VGA signal, and CANNOT be used for any other purpose. Those other guys telling you to buy one of those cables are going to waste your time and money.

Or some video cards already have an HDMI out port and DVI or VGA, if not you would have to get an adapter like that guy said
