Whats going on with my computer monitor?

Why is my monitor going crazy at 1024x768?

  • I have ASUS A9550GE 256mb graphics card powered by ATI. (I always use 1024x768 resolution)(I just recently upgraded it on uhh.... 3rd or 4th week of Jan. 2008) Recently I was making a video project and my monitor started to make this weird sound then it kinda shrunk to the center of the screen ...so I turned the monitor off for a day . The next day I opened my computer, the screen kept expanding and compressing .... after a while I noticed that while in safe mode it doesn't happen so I decreased its resolution to 800x600 but the problem now is that I can't play my games without my monitor going beserk ..... please help me thanks! (I use a 7yr old CRT monitor but it works fine on 800x600, it has just gone noticeably dimmer than before) During 1024x768 its kinda squeezed and everything is blurred and very dark So whats the problem? a. My monitor b. My graphics Card c. ____(state your own answer)____

  • Answer:

Check the refresh rate. Drop it down to 60Hz and see if it does the same thing. It's either the guns going out or it's been set at too high a refresh rate for that resolution. edit: You should have a horizontal setting on the monitor itself to adjust the screen width and height.

A. It sounds like your monitor is going out.

If you can use the computer without problem in Safe Mode, most likely your monitor is ok. Pay attention to that driver of the graphic card. Reinstalled the driver from ATI disk. One should always uninstall existing graphic driver first before installation. http://www.playtool.com/pages/uninstallgraphics/uninstall.html

Uninstall the supporting drivers remove the graphics card from the slot wipe it and then fix it to the slot and then install the supporting drivers and finally restart it.......
