How do i fix my screen?

How do I fix a screen resolution that is TOO WIDE for my screen on Windows Vista?

  • I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 (a 17" wide screen) that runs on Windows Vista. The screen resolution is too wide for the size of the screen. It didn't get fixed like it should have when I went to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Adjust Screen Resolution. I increased the screen resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels (the highest that it will go) because the screen resolution was too big for my screen at first. It reduced the screen resolution, but now the screen resolution it's too wide! How do I get it back to normal??

  • Answer:

You should run the "native resolution" for best appearances on your 17" wide screen. The native resolution is 1440x900 for that computer. The highest you can see is 1024x768, so it seems you have a driver issue. I suggest you go to the Dell site and get the latest driver for your video. That site has a feature that will interrogate your system and determine the right drivers. Start here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection
