Why is my laptop screen fading?

My monitor screen keeps fading to grey?

• My laptop has been a real pest lately. On most occasions, my screen will just randomly freeze and fade to grey. My computer still works fine, but the screen keeps fading to grey. The only solution is to shake my screen, but even if I so much as move my hand from the screen, it'll fade to grey again. It's almost a chore to make this thing work, and it's frustrating. I can't move my hand from the screen at all. I have a Gateway NV53 with Windows 7. It really is crap. What I want to know is: what is the problem and how can I fix it? I can't afford to send it back for repairs since my guarantee expired in March. Also, tell me if you've had a similar problem. Thank you!

  Sounds like the cable to the screen is somehow damaged or partially unconnected. If you don't want to open up your laptop and take a look, take it to a local computer repair shop.
