What is causing my fuzzy/vibrating computer screen?

Fixing/Replacing my laptop screen?

  • Yesterday my airsoft gun spontaneously exploded and sent its parts all over my room as well as a bb into the screen of my laptop. Now the screen is cracked on the top right side, and a big white space, about 1/5th the size of my laptop screen is completely white and messed up. I have an Inspiron 1750, and I'd send it into Dell but I'm pretty sure the warranty is expired and I don't feel like spending a lot of money. The screen is still usable, just that one big white space in the corner is annoying. Is there anything I could do to fix it? I have pretty good experience with computer, and I believe the actual problem with the screen is that the cracked area is putting too much pressure on the corner of the screen which is why it's causing the white space. I'm experienced enough with computers that I could take apart the screen and possibly replace the outer screen. Before I do that, I'm wondering if there's anything I could do instead, or maybe where I would buy a new screen? Worse comes to worst, I have a spare desktop monitor which I could make my primary display for my laptop, but I'd have to get rid of the actual screen first which is going to be a *****, so if I have to do that, could someone help me there too? I've taken up over 1000 characters in typing this :)

  • Answer:

open up the screen case and check the manufacturer name and model number on the back. search on ebay using the model number, and you will find suppliers selling your particular screen. once you get the new one, puting it all back together is the easy part.

Yes, you can easily go to dell.com (while answering a question here I found this out) and they have possible replacement parts for their laptops. I actually say some inspiron 1550 screens and etc. So just browse around on their site for a replacement screen. As far as replacing the screen itself, I've never done this, but I hear it's not that difficult and all it takes is unhooking and plugging in a few connectors (don't quote me on this though). They also have replacement keyboards too =]
