How do I connect a Mac mini to my TV?

  • I recently acquired a Mac mini a1103 running OS X 10.4 (Tiger). I'd like to hook it up to my Haier 32" flatscreen TV. I have an HDMI cable and and a DVI-to-HDMI converter. When I hook the mini to the TV it goes from saying "No Signal" on the TV to "Not Supported". I tried all the different display resolutions, but get the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Answer:

In order to connect your Mac to the T.V. you have to purchase an VGA cord. The best ones to purchase are those that come equipped with the audio cord as well. The best place to find a bargain for these things is on Amazon.com. However, since you have a Mac, you will need to purchase the DVI to VGA display adapter for connecting Macs equipped with a DVI port to an external VGA monitor or projector at home, office or to have handy while on the road. With this adapter, you connect it to the VGA cord and then connect it to your laptop while you connect the other end to the rear of you T.V. which should be labeled "RGB" or "VGA" and that's where you connect it to. You might have to configure the settings on your laptop to fit the screen size however. After you connect them together via the VGA cord, you must go onto your T.V. and select input. Once you have done that, scroll down to the RGB selection and select that. If your laptop is configured correctly, it should all work immediately. Don't do anything with your laptop though until you connect your laptop to the T.V. and select RGB and see if it works.
