What is Audio Resolution?

What just happened with my resolution?

  • For no reason what so ever, my computer changed screen resolution. Basically, at first, I was running a program, but it was slow. I decided to go check out the Guest account to see if anybody opened programs they didn't close. I heard the startup noise, but it seems to have logged me onto a full-screen command prompt (a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top-left corner) instead of the Windows XP interface. I couldn't get rid of it, so I decided to restart my computer. When it restarted, my resolution, for no reason what so ever, went from 1600 by 1200 px to 800 by 600 px, and a bubble popping out of the taskbar said that the computer changed resolution, despite me never asking it to. Now, for some odd reason, when I want to put it back to the original 1600*1200 resolution, I get a message originating from the screen itself telling me that the "Input Is Not Supported" before going back to the previous resolution. I'm running a Malware scan, but I'm having a hard time believing it's malevolent work. What is most likely going on and how do I fix it? If it's any help, I have an ACER-brand screen and a Pentium 4 running on Windows XP. I DO have an old video card (Matrox Graphics Millennium PCI) but 1) it was running fine up to now, and 2) the other video card I had before would freeze my computer because it was too powerful. I had to replace it with an older card. PS: I'm not a huge computer nerd, so if possible, I would like to have an answer that isn't filled with jargon, thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

"Input Is Not Supported" means the monitor isn't recognizing the output from your video card. A few things to try are: 1) Remove and reconnect the video cable making sure the cables are securely fastened 2) Try a different computer with that monitor. It may be a monitor failure. 3) Try different settings such as 1280x960 or 1024x768 If nothing else works try reinstalling the video driver for that card, if you can find it.
