Monitor went strange, what can i do?

The power went out, now my monitor sees only in shades of blue, is there any fix?

  • So, some idiot with a backho had a good time on my street, and in doing so inadvertently slaughtered everyone's power until an actual professional had to come out and repair all the damage that was done -- well, when I finally got everything back and running again, my monitor is now... broken? Everything is shown in some shade of blue, more or less. I've tried resetting the power strip, turned my PC on/off, turned the monitor on/off, unplugged and replugged the monitor in, etc. Nothing has done the trick and fixed the problem. Am I screwed over, thanks to that imbecile? Do I need to buy a new monitor?

  • Answer:

There are three possible problems, but the most likely by far is that while you were connecting and disconnecting the monitor, you bent/broke a pin. Look at the male 15-pin connector end and see if any pins are bent or broken. If you weren't too hard on it, you may be able to bend it back into place. If not, and it's a cable that can be detached at both ends, you just need a new monitor cable. Update: You never mentioned that you didn't change any cables around until after this specific problem was evident. In fact, you said: "well, when I finally got everything back and running again, my monitor is now... broken?"
