How to get image from laptop to external monitor?

My external monitor for my laptop..?

  • I recently bought an external monitor with 60hz of refresh rate for my laptop. I connected it to my laptop by using a d-sub cable. The image quality is okay but I notice that the screen flickers. Is it normal or is it because I use the d-sub instead of dvi? (I heard that dvi is better than vga..is that true?). By connecting to the monitor by using it's dvi port will it be better? But my laptop only has vga...if I use a vga-dvi cable will it still work? (assuming that by using dvi can get rit of the flickers....)

  • Answer:

Use HDMI if you can or use DVI (Video quality of HDMI = video quality of DVI, same bit length). VGA is analog, DVI is digital. If you do analog output to digital input, you will be at analog video quality. If you use digital output to digital input it will be better video quality than analog. Make sure your connection is solid, try another cable.
