Why does my computer monitor turn on and off?

Why is my computer monitor going to sleep right when I turn my computer on?

  • This HP computer is fairly new, only about a year old. It hasn't always been doing this, but within the past two months, whenever I try to turn my computer on, my monitor refuses to work. The computer and printer both turn on, but the monitor displays a "NO SIGNAL" image, and after a few seconds, it says "Monitor going to sleep". Whenever I try jiggling the mouse, it still remains black. Also, my keyboard does not turn on, and I don't think my mouse is working, either. I'm not very skilled with computers, so please be kind.

seems like your computer is dying lol. tbh maybe the monitor is not connected properly or someone went all the way to change the power setting of your computer and maybe deactivated the mouse and keyboard driver. Or i can be frank since i owned two HP computers, They really suck and it time to get a Toshiba or Dell(don't worry they are getting a better reputation than b4). Toshiba is a better choice but they have the worst webcams so if video calls are ur thing get a new webcam. Ur in for luck if you are Canadian cause boxing day is comin and nows the perfect time to get a bargain price and new laptop

Easiest thing for you to try, I would say your video cable is loose. (the cable that runs from your monitor to the back of your computer) Does the monitor ever come on ? If not, could be your video card. Might need to take it in to get this done if you are not very savvy or don't know anybody.

Right click and go to properties go to screen saver and click on Monitor Power.. click the power button then go over to advanced and you can change your power button to change to sleep and ect. It depends if your computer even has this function. o.o
