How to check if my monitor is on?

IPS vs VPA Monitor? How to check?

  • I'm going out to buy a Dell 2007fp. The person selling it says the model number is Dell 2007fpt. How do I check to make sure if it's a IPS or VPA screen?

  • Answer:

I've never heard of a VPA screen before. Monitor types are usually IPS, TFT, or TN. A Dell 2007fp is a TFT panel, which is the run of the mill LCD. These monitors on this page are all IPS: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/sna.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~topic=ultrasharp_monitor. You can tell pretty easy, though TFT panels are getting pretty good. IPS improves screen angles and contrast, so if you move to the side of the monitor and it still retains the same colour and visibility (ie. it doesn't become really dark or blue), chances are it's an IPS.
