How do you get the clearest signal from cable TV?

How do I get a signal from my MacBook Pro (late 2008 model) to my analog TV with a single link DVI-D Cable?

  • i have a Macbook pro and a Single link DVI-D cable for the mini-display port. What I want is to get a signal to my ordinary tv (not high def). how can I achieve this and what other cables would be required? (I know that audio will need to come from the headphone port in my laptop, don't worry about that)

  • Answer:

Unfortunately, you cannot. Your old boob-tube TV requires a composited analog signal. The DVI-D adapter you have passes through a digital TMDS video signal which the TV will not be able to use. The only way you will be able to connect your MBP to an old boob-tube TV is if you use a scan converter box that can translate the DVI signal to composite analog. I wouldn't bother though, because composite analog is inherently a poor-quality signal, and your computer display will look like crap on that old boob-tube TV.
