Why does my computer monitor flicker?

My LCD Monitor is starting to flicker on my HP Computer with Windows XP. What is wrong?

  • Answer:

Always look for the cheapest solution first. Many of the power cables on these monitors are mounted vertically and can wiggle loose over time. Turn everything off and completely pull out the power cord. Inspect for dust and replace firmly, both ends. Do the same with the VGA cord. If that doesn't solve it, see if some new change in resolution was created by you or your software, either on purpose or by accident. If it's not the "native" resolution of the monitor brand, then expect flickering and other trouble. The native resolution is the best setting for that monitor and can usually be found in the manual. Other than that, all monitors do have some level of life expectancy, and it could simply be the bulbs in the back of the monitor are dying. Depends on the age and the amount of time it's on every day... Good Luck... :)

It could be a couple different things: 1.) a Bad or Damaged LCD/Internal Part. 2.) A Bad or Damaged VGA cable. 3,) A Bad or Damaged Graphics Card.
