Why does my computer screen randomly go dark?

  • My computer screen has just started randomly turning really dark to the point where I can vaguely tell there's something on the screen but I have to restart the whole computer to get it back to normal. It just started resently and seems to do it every half hour or so. It's really frustrating, and I dont know how to fix it. I dont even know the key commands to brighten or darken the screen as it is. I have a Dell PC and if anyone knows how to fix this problem itd be great.

    Does it happen only when the computer is idle for a while? If so, check your screen saver. You may need to adjust it. If it happens while you're using the PC, then it could be a faulty video card. Try visiting the Dell support website. You can use their online debugging tool. Next time it happens turn the monitor (not the computer) off then on. If it comes back on, and your on an LCD monitor, then the light in the screen may be dying.
