Dual monitor playing games?

Monitor turns off while watching movies/playing games?

  • I hope it's not my video card. I just replaced my video card 2 months ago. I had a BFG 6800 which went bad. Replaced it with BFG nVidia 8600 GTS. Brand new card. I have the latest video driver from nvidia. It worked fine for the two months with no problems. But about a week ago I started having a problem where the monitor will turn off while playing games or watching movies. I have my power settings set so that the monitor turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity. However, a monitor should not turn off while there is activity going on...like a movie is playing or I'm playing a game. I know I can just change the settings so the monitor never turns off, but I don't want to have to do that. I've done some google searching on this issue and there is no definite answer...everyone just suggests to change the power settings so that the monitor never turns off...which I don't wanna do :) Can it be the power supply going bad? Or is it definitely a sign of a video card going bad?

  • Answer:

check the monitor on a diff computer to see if its this, the graphics card may be overheating clean it and check the fan still works, check all your power saving options. is there anything you installed or changed just before the first time this problem happened. is the monitor your using a tv or a proper monitor some tv may need options sorting on them. have you tried dropping your resolution also try all these mate
