Answer:
Well years ago when monitors were as big as houses and as heavy as one (remember those?) I had one that did this. The power button went bad. Kept using it for a couple more years with a wood screw in there keeping it on lol! It was one of the first 17" or something, that was pretty cool back then lol! Saw your question and this came to mind :0) The link below is for the drivers that might help you, sounds like a hardware problem though......

Might be defective. Or it might just be sleeping. Can you wiggle the mouse to make it come back on?

There are a few possibilities. Make sure all of the cables are connected properly. If they're not, and you just tap the wire with your feet, it could mess things up. Make sure that it's not in a small enclosed area. The monitor could be overheating. Lastly, Make sure that you have proper drivers installed for the monitor. go to www.driverguide.com to get a list of drivers for your monitor. Hope this helps.

If your cables are in snug, when you turn it back on it shows the "self test", than it may not be the monitor at all, on the contrary, it may be the computer. Your motherboard may be failing, Is the light on on the front of the computer when this happens? If it's not it's your computer that is randomly shutting off, not the monitor. For clarity, try another monitor, if that works, try the monitor in another computer, if it doesnt, get your computer checked out.
