How do i change my screen resolution?

I changed my screen resolution and my screen went black, how do I change it back?

I have a netbook and I hooked it up to my tv. But when I was playing around with the screen resolution, to change the picture, I selected the highest option not knowing that neither my netbook screen or my tv can support that resolution. Now when I turn on my netbook (not connected to the tv) it works fine except right before it moves to the login screen, the picture foes black and I can't see what I'm doin on the computer. So I was wondering if there is a way to change the resolution back? Please help

Left click computer screen then click personalize then click display settings .

Try (function) F8...try it more than once it goes throu different video settings.
