Computer help about monitors?

Need help hooking up 2 monitors to one computer.?

  • I have Dell Inspiron 530S desktop computer and I have 2 Dell monitors. On the back of the computer has a VGA video connector at the top and it also has a video card with a DVI connector only. Right now, the main monitor is connected to the DVI connection using a DVI cable. I tried hooking up the 2nd monitor using the VGA cable to the CGA video connector, but when I connect it, nothing happens. I even went into the display and tried to configure it to extend, but it won't find the 2nd monitor. Can I not use the VGA video connector to hook up the 2nd monitor? I bought a dvi y-cable, but it was the wrong one. Grr!!! Fyi, I'm running windows 7.

  • Answer:

check your bios to make sure both cards are turned on, and some oem's will automatically shut off integrated graphics when a discrete card is used. in this case you will need a new card if your current one doesnt support 2 monitors....what card is it btw? two enter the bios you need to press the appropriate key at start up. as soon as your computer boots, you will see options like.....press f10 for setup (bios), f9 for boot menu etc. i cant tell you want it is because it varies from machine to machine but its probably f10, esc or del....but jut read the options as it will tell you.
