How do I make the font on my screen crisper?

I just got a 22" monitor but my screen and text size is all messed up. Help?

  • I just bought a 22 inch monitor and I have hooked it up. Now when I open Mozilla Firefox, the mainpage (Yahoo) has tiny font and when I go to other sites like YA the screen size and text is all messed up. My main page is widescreen and I can increase the font. But is there anyway to make that font increase permanent; I dont like having to change it everytime I open Mozilla. As for YA, the screen is squished in the middle and different tabs and columns are overlapping; it isnt covering the entire screen but just squished in the middle. How do I fix this? Thanks.

  • Answer:

First make sure that the resolution that your display is in, is set to the correct one for your monitor type. If your monitor is a widescreen type it may have a different aspect ratio like 16:10 as compared to the ordinary ones which have a 4:3 aspect ratio. Those differences affect the display at certain resolutions and the picture may appear squished or elongated. So try changing the resolution to something different like 1600 x 1050. Don't be afraid to experiment with different values. If changing the resolution makes your display disappear altogether, waiting for a few seconds or pressing the ESC key typically may help reset it to the previous value. Secondly, most new monitors have their in-built settings at factory defaults which may or may not be suitable for the resolution that your display is currently set at. This could be easily remedied by changing the horizontal width and vertical height adjustment using the monitor's own control switches. Exactly how this is done differs from one brand to the other, so it's best to consult the manual for your specific monitor. Poke around in the OSD menus, and you'll stumble on to it. Instructions on how to change the resolution for Windows machines could be found at the links below.

Try right clicking on the desktop, and properties to decrease the screen resolution, this will make everything on your desktop larger and hopefully easier to see.

You may need to update your driver for that monitor anyway. Visit the manufacturer's web site and see if they have the latest driver for that 22' before you do a lot of dumb things people have been suggesting. If no driver available, then go to Control Panel>Display and select the Settings tab. The screen resolution may be set incorrectly for your new monitor. When you say monitor, I take it it is a new 22-inch flat-screen. For a 22" you want to use the high resolution otherwise you waste the money paid. Click the Advanced button, and adjust your DPI to the setting you want that will produce larger system size font. You might also want to change the font sizes listed under the Appearance tab>Advanced button. Scroll through the Item: menu list and change sizes as needed. Normally, you shoulh have to only do the changes for the Monitor on the Settings tab. Ron

This works in both IE and Firefox Just hold down your CTRL key and roll the scroll wheel on your mouse to adjust the size of the displayed image to fit your screen. Hope this fixes your problem for you.

I think u might have to go to view, character encoding and mess with it to see if it works.
