How do I connect Monitor Sharing between my Laptop and CRT?

Connect a laptop with vga to a crt tv?

  • Hi i was wondering how i would go about hooking up my laptop with a vga port to a crt tv. i bought an adapter that plugs into my vga port and has the red white and yellow rca ends. i plugged that into my tv and tried enabling a second monitor and turning my tv onto auxillary but it didn't work. what else do i have to do? its a classical crt tv with no s-video port. just the rca plugs. thank you!

  • Answer:

That will NEVER work. Those VGA-to-composite adapters are meant for video cards that have a specially-built VGA port capable of sending out a TV signal. It will NOT work with just any VGA port. Your laptop's VGA port is NOT one of those specially-built ones. That is why that adapter you bought won't work, and never will. The only way you can connect a normal VGA output to an old low-definition boob-tube TV is with a signal converter box that can translate VGA to composite, but I would recommend against it because the image quality will be terrible.
