What is the average lifetime of an LCD Monitor?

Can I mix LCD and CRT monitors on a dual monitor system?

  • At my church we use a computer to play music for the choir and show powerpoint slides on an overhead projector. I had a y-splitter on the monitor output of the video card. It worked well for months. Then I was asked to set up a dual monitor system. I changed the video card and added a CRT monitor. The CRT and the overhead ran off the y-split cable. The LCD ran off the other output and ran as the second monitor. Again, everything worked well but after a week the LCD seemed to freak out and went white. I switched it to the other output on the video card and again it went white. I replaced it with a CRT monitor and again we had normal dual monitor function. Later, another guy took the LCD home and turned it on. It worked fine. Did unpluging the power to the LCD cause it to reset? Is the LCD prone to "freaking out" if it is hooked up to a dual monitor system when the other monitor is a CRT? Thanks for any help.

Sorry, I couldnt get the reply to send. I would think the problem is a defective LCD monitor. Plug it back in yours and see if it works, if it does, take it back and tell them the picture goes out intermittantly

i know it's possible because i have it set up right now.. as far as the flashing white thing.. that also happened to my crt monitor even when it wasn't hooked up to lcd.. but it just broke and i had to ship it back to compaq for warranty and stuff.. but yes lcd and crt can go dual.. the way i do it however is with a grapgics card that has the 2 slots anyway
