How can I fix the problem of getting a blank screen while viewing Adobe Flash Player content? (Mostly YouTube)?
-
Hi. Recently, my computer has shown the constant problem of my screen randomly changing to a blank color (not just black) while viewing content on the internet that requires Adobe Flash Player, for example, YouTube and Blogtv. All 1024x768 of my pixels change to one, constant color, and I am forced to restart my computer to have a comprehensible display again. All of my computer controls still work, I can still hear audio and change volume, and I am able to navigate my computer BY MEMORY, but that is such a challenge in frustration. For example, if the screen turns blank while watching a YouTube video, I could probably click the video to pause it, or even close out of my browser (Firefox) by dragging my mouse to the top right of the screen and clicking ("X" out). This happens randomly, it seems. I could have watched 5 YT videos in a row and have it happen, or maybe 20. One special occasion on which it has happened was when I clicked the play button on an embedded YouTube video (on a website other than YouTube). Immediately after clicking the play button, the screen blanked. This is such a pain and frustration, and I have no idea how to fix it temporarily or permanently. I've uninstalled Firefox and Flash Player, and then reinstalled their latest versions, restarted the computer, and still had this problem. I've tried using System Restore to restore my computer to an earlier time, and I've restored it to a week or two before this problem started. That has not fixed it. I can't think of anything else to try. My computer specifications are: --Operating System-- MS Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3 --CPU-- Intel Core Duo T2300E @ 1.66GHz 51 °C Yonah 65nm Technology --RAM-- 1016MB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz 5-5-5-13 --Motherboard-- LENOVO 9457A49 (None) --Graphics-- ThinkPad Display 1024x768 on Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family --Hard Drives-- 320GB Seagate ST9320325AS (SATA) 35 °C --Optical Drives-- HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N FUHWVC 7GXY385UJS1A SCSI CdRom Device --Audio-- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10 Flash Player 10.1 Not sure you need all of that, but it may help. So, again, how can I fix the problem of getting a blank screen (any color) while viewing Adobe Flash Player content? (Mostly YouTube) Please help!

Answer:
I would first attempt try to reinstall Adobe flash player followed by your graphic card driver software and lastly firefox. Maybe also a virus scan. If it occurs after this, maybe a reinstall of windows XP could help. I'm sure you know how to reinstall adobe, as for the graphic driver: 1. Go to intel.com and search for your driver, 32bit windows XP compatible & download this. 2. Go to start menu of windows > default programs or whatnot > left panel of the menu select "add/remove programs" 3. Select & uninstall intel graphics, restart if needed (your screen may flash several times during the uninstall and your resolution will lower) 4. Install the new graphic driver, restart again if needed, then reselect your resolution and any other settings if needed. For a virus scan (yes this is only a scanner for in-depth removal and not an anti virus) try malware bytes anti malware: http://malwarebytes.org free version is sufficient.
