Resolution setting problem for 19" wide screen LCD?
-
At 1024x768, 60Hz, 96dpi Everything falls in full view, internet browser, desktop, mails, my computer, Icon size, font size etc.. look good in proportion and size..... **BUT quality of picture and fonts are blurrish and unsharp At Native resolution 1440x900,60Hz, 120dpi Pictures and fonts sharpen, good clarity, icon size compensated by 120dpi, everthing looks good.... **BUT internet browsing home page shrunk by 1/3, tried setting zoomed to 110% and wide screen and the home page looks prefect **But while surfing to other site the size and proportion varies... e.g my yahoo mail had exceeded the full screen size; while other site might remained like 100% zoom with 1/3 shrunk. I'm confused... Is LCD wide screen a mistake that never could fully replaced the square type CRT or LCD, seem to me there're alot of unresolved resolution problem. Any suggestion how do I get a full screen in all browsing and clarity of so call native resolution?

Answer:
Here's the thing, LCD's only look sharp at their Native Resolution, which sucks. My office PC is an LCD, but I still use a 21" flat CRT for gaming as it's adjustable resolution and refresh is superior.

I am actually using an LCD wide screen @ 1440x900 and it works fine. One of the reasons might be.. make sure you have installed the right Graphics card drivers that comes along with your motherboard and not the ones that comes with defualt XP or even VISTA... those doest work well at high resolutions..causing blurred fonts.. But yes certain resolutions are more crisp and goes well with the monitor as the aspect ratios are better. I am a designer and I prefer my screen to be crisp. Magnifying webpages to 110% can make it blurry too..coz most of them are designed to fit at 100%.. Usually most websites are designed for 800x600 and they usually fit all resolutions... but now its moving on to 1024x resolution.. but still since everyones migrating to bigger monitors..this shouldnt be a problem. The websites should be full screen no matter what resolutoins you are using... The internet homepage wouldnt shrink, its just becuase you have increased your resolution to 1440x900, you have the capability to get more view per pixel...so that way you can view more of your page. Getting full screen at 1440x900 is kinda not a feasible thing.. but if you wanna do so... set your screen resolution back to 1024x :)

Stick with the native resolution. With windows you can adjust font size in several locations. At least two locations in Display control panel and for your internet browser go under View ->Text size. If that's not confusing enough Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word all have their own separate controls for zooming/font size. Shouldn't matter with graphics driver as it relates to this issue. Go into Display Control panel under the Appearance tab -> Effects button and turn off TrueType option and see if that improves focus clarity for you. It won't affect font size but can improve clarity of fonts on some panels.
