Which is better LCD or LED monitors?

Lcd vs led monitors, which is better?

  • Answer:

The main projection of the screen is still LCD. The screen is not made with individual LEDs. Push (gently) on any modern flat panel monitor and you see the same liquid distortion from the LCD that the old ones had. The difference is the back lighting. LCDs by default have no light, they are just a switching screen. For them to light up, they have to have a light source pushing in from behind (backlit). In "LCD" monitors that we are all used to for 10 yrs, they used a tiny bright fluorescent bulb generally in the bottom that provided the flood of light. Only problem is the light isn't always even, the bulbs burn out quicker (and can go dim before), and the color temperature of the light produced isn't perfect and varies. LED monitors use ultra-bright LEDS (like everyone sees in flashlights and under-counter lamps) to provide the light source. They are brighter, longer-lasting, make almost no heat, and use less energy. Their color output is normally more true-to-life so you can reproduce pictures accurately as well. So after all the technobabble...LED monitors will use less electricity, last longer, and probably look a little better. And will most likely completely replace CFL-lit screens shortly. I have 2 22" LED monitors, they are very bright and have produce zero heat.

Virtually all monitors and TV's sold today that sell for less than $10grand are not "LED" but rather "LED Back-lit LCD" screens. But LED backlit monitors ARE superior to florescent backlit monitors. the florescent backlights have a limited lifespan. The LED backlight monitors will certainly last until you replace them for some other reason (larger monitor, 3d technology, whatever...)

Generally, LED is better and most of the times pricier. LCD= liquid crystal display, this is where light is emitted onto a pixel crystal to produce an image, it last for a llong time but is not as clear/bright as an LED and uses more energy. Although its sometimes best to buy an LCD because they are cheaper and still look great LED (aka LED-LCD)= light emitting diode, this is where each pixel is light up by itself, LED's last longer, look better, SAVE ENERGY (eco friendly) but are usually more expensive than LCD.
