What caused my monitor to suddenly get darker?

How to CAUSE an LCD monitor to power fail / not turn on? (Warranty Service)?

• Unfortunately my Dell 22" LCD monitor recently fell over and it seems the inner lcd part of the screen has cracked. there is no visible damage and it LOOKS fine when turned OFF, but when powered on, there is a crazy "cracked glass" effect and lots of lines and colors with no normal image. the monitor is still under warranty, but i'm pretty sure the monitor falling over and breaking would be blamed on me and not covered. in my defense, the monitor's stand is flimsy/basically defective and led to this problem in the first place... ...so my plan is to make it so the monitor simply does not power up. then i can claim it just stopped working one day and get a replacement, since the flimsy monitor stand IS defective and caused the damage. Any recommendations on how to make it so the monitor won't power up or can't turn on any more, without causing any visible damage? Thanks! (I know this is a little strange, but I've been a long-time dell customer and this really is not directly my fault and feel it should be fixed via warranty).

  I suppose you could try a wire cutter... But why don't you just tell Dell that it was the stand that caused the thing to fall in the first place...?
