How can I connect my computer to my HDTV?

How exactly do you connect a PC monitor AND a HDTV to a single computer?

  • Okay, I'm new to this whole thing, so I apologise in advance if I sound stupid, I just need a clarifying answer. I'm planning on connecting a PC monitor and, simultaneously an HDTV to a computer to have one screen as my main gaming screen, and then the other for youtube etc. I was wondering if the TV and PC monitor connect directly to the graphics card? I'm aiming to connect the PC monitor using an HDMI cable and then the HDTV using a VGA to HDMI cable (VGA from PC, HMDI into TV). I know that the graphics card I'm getting, the 2GB Geforce GTX560 has an HMDI port, a VGA port and two DVI ports, but is that where the screens connect and would what I am aiming to do actually work? Thanks in advance. :)

  • Answer:

If your Graphic card has a HDMI, VGA and DVI port, then you can just connect the HDMI port to the HDTV (Assuming it has a HDMI port too) and the VGA port to the PC Monitor.

Most flat screen, HDTV's have a connection on the back that the computer monitor cord will attach to directly. Then just use your remote to go to the proper source; usually RGB, or PC on your TV to see the computer screen and interact with your computer on the big screen. There are special video cards available almost anywhere; but, especially computer and electronic stores; even WM has them sometimes. The card will have two connections on it that will allow you to connect to your TV and monitor at the same time.
