Do all computer monitors have VGA input?

Is it possible to have 2 monitors run from a computer, 1 a VGA connection, the other a HDMI connection?

  • Basically this is the situaion... I have an Acer Aspire M3641 computer and i want to use 2 screens for it. One of the monitors will be a VGA connection ( i already have this) the other monitor is actually a HD tv im getting for christmas which has 2 HDMI connections. My main question is... 1) Is it possible for my computer to run 2 monitors, one that uses a HDMI connection, and the other VGA 2) If this works, how can i have both my monitors showing the exact same image on each one (NOT extending my monitor so it can show separate windows on each screen) 3) If the first question is not possible to do, could I still have the same image on both my monitors if i use a VGA splitter instead? Please answer these questions in full detail. thanks

I'm not much of a hardware guy so I'll explain it the best way I can. My monitor, when it was just one, had the wide white wire, and the thinner blue wire, going to the computer. I wanted to hook up my other screen, but turns out there wasn't any more room. Then, my friend (who is good with these things) told me that the computer only needs on, either a white wire, or a blue one. So, my first monitor is running on the white wire, and my second one is running on the blue one. Hope that answers your question.

Most newer graphics cards will let you output video in a dual monitor configuration. The card may have a VGA out and a DVI or 2 DVIs and usually you will find an adapter with it that converts one to HDMI. There are two popular dual monitor settings which are extending and cloning. You will want to use your graphics card's clone option to display the same thing on both screens. Edit: Also, you can use a VGA splitter if your graphics card does not support a dual monitor setup. This also has the advantage of not using up as much video memory.

answer to the first question is yes, depending on your video card, my video card has a vga, dvi, and s-video output, i use the vga for monitor, and dvi for tv (dvi to hdmi cable). if you have a internal video card for the pc, you will have to buy a spitter. the best bet would be to buy a good video card for your pc.

1) if your video card has both outputs and is powerful enough yes you can run 2 monitors. 2) Yes you can clone the monitors to show the same image but depending on the resolution of the monitor it may distort the image i.e. monitor A has a 1024x768 resolution and monitor B the TV is 1080p (1920x1080) the image will look magnified and stretched on monitor B or have black bars aat the top bottom and sides. If the resolutions are very similar like 1920x1200 for monitor A and 1920x1080 for monitor B you will barely notice the distortion and or black bars. depending on your video drivers setting up clone mode will differ. 3) VGA splitters lose quality the more you split them.
