Why can't I set my monitor to a higher resolution?

Cant change resolution on old monitor, after higher resolution monitor died. Cant get to change settings?

  • Heres the deal: Have computer with Windows XP SP2. Had a new 22 wide LCD, that just died When I try using old monitor, the screen shows display until windows boots, then the resolution is set too high and monitor goes out. I cannot access safe mode by pressing any f-keys I even tried using S-video to TV but resolution seemed too high I just want to change resolution, so I can use newest computer on older Monitor. Anyone know how to do this?

  • Answer:

Start your computer, as soon as you see print on the screen, push the restart button. Do this 3 times in a row, and then let the computer start normally. It will give you the option for safe mode. When you boot there, you can change your screen settings.
