Why does my monitor shut off when I play PC games?

  • When I play PC games, after a while my monitor shuts off. The light that is normally green on the monitor goes to orange and the computer itself stays on. This rarely happens with WoW and Warcraft III but it is very frequent when I play Call of Duty 4. I have a ATI Radeon 2600HD video card. I just bought a brand new Samsung 200T 20" LCD Monitor and it doesn't seem to have fixed anything (This problem occured with my old monitor). I have ATItool and it shows my graphics card's temperature as fine and not overheating so I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to stop my monitor from shutting off. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Have you ensured that your PSU is capable of powering this graphics card? Even without you seeing overheating issues, it's possible that, periodically, the card tries to draw more current than the PSU can supply.

not exactly an answer but softwares can also shut off monitor when it happens, what happens when you move mouse or press key on keyboard? does monitor comes back to life?
