Why doesn't my HDMI Cable work?

Why is it when i connect my monitor with the hdmi cable to my ps3, it doesnt show picture on it?

• im have a HDMI slot in my monitor and i conectted to my ps3, it sayes when i start up my ps3, a HDMI cable has been found, would you like to use it? i use it but no picture comes up, my mointor worked with my HDMI BLU RAY player but it doesnt work with my ps3, what do i need to do to make it work for my ps3?

  I dont have a PS3 (no surprises!) but im guessing perhaps you have to set something on the PS3 so it displays in HDMI? Im guessing the PS3 defaults to the standard AV output unless you change something in its options. Logic for this being, if were the other way around, anybody NOT having an HDMI interface would have no way of navigating the menu to switch it back to AV. Hook it up through a regular TV setup and make the change. Then just hook it up through the HDMI. Sorry if I'm just guessing but hoping it turns out well.
