What is the average lifetime of an LCD Monitor?

Monitor refresh rate. Higher is good or bad?

  • My LCD has a refresh rate of 59 to 85 Hertz. What are the advantages of putting 85 Hertz? Also does having it so high decrease the lifetime of my monitor? Any additional information is welcomed.

  • Answer:

It will have no effect either way. On a CRT 60Hz is bad because it hurts your eyes. On an LCD, the rise/fall time is what determines the refresh rate of an individual pixel, but the overall image is completely stable. Set it to 85Hz for best results, but don't expect to see any difference. The lifespan of the panel will be the same no matter what you set it to.

The higher the better as it reduces eye strain. It's not crap that you cannot see flicker at 60 Hz as I have experienced it.Above 85 hz matters only to some really large screens. But yeah if its LCD one its better to operate it in default settings for better lifetime or you can decrease the resolution and increase refresh rate without much effect on lifetime.

YES! i used to use 60hz back then, my friend came over, and he changed it b/c it hurts his eyes, it didn't hurt me, barely noticed it, but after using the max hz for a while, when i go use school computers, crt ones, i go on and you can see the flickering, 60hz, and it hurts, it gets more obvious on older monitors

higher is better. some people say they can see it flickering at 60hz but the human eye only sees at about 30 frames per second so i think those people are mostly full of crap. it will not degrade the lifetime of your monitor to set it higher.
