My monitor keeps getting darker?

How to connect PS3 to my Samsung Monitor?

• I have a Samsung syncmaster BX2031. I would like to hook my playstation 3 up to it. Right now, I'm using a very small Toshiba box tv. I've already figured out how to get the sound to play, as my monitor has no internal speakers (I have the sound coming out of basic computer speakers). The big problem is that I can't get video to play. My monitor, while trying to read a signal, keeps flipping between analog and digital and then eventually gives up and says a signal cannot be found. I've tried VGA adapters to plug the AVI cable into as well as an HDMI to VGA cable. I've heard that HDMI to DVI is the way to go. However, I'm tired of shelling out cash so I want to make sure before getting it. My monitor does have a DVI port, I'm just worried that it lacks HDCP. I've recently seen a youtube video of someone playing a PS3 on the exact same monitor so I know it can be done. I would just like to know what the basic steps are to get this accomplished. I'm not a big computer/monitor expert but if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. Please help!

  HDMI -> VGA sounds expensive... sorry HDMI --> DVI is suppose to be the way to go. HDMI and DVI are both digital formats, there's very little if any conversion between the two. VGA is an analog format. SO, i suggest you try one of those adapters, and keep the receipt. The only problem i can see you facing is the HDCP one. I think with ps3 mostly everything should be fine. Protected videos and BluRay will give you an issue if your monitor doesn't support HDCP. I've heard downscaling to 480p Just check the specs of your monitor for HDCP
