My computer's Screen will not come up, why?

Nothing fits to screen size?

  • My computer was fine, everything fitted to the screen size and has done since I got the computer (3 years now) but 2 days ago when I restarted the computer upon reboot everything was enlarged, for example the loading screen and the windows vista symbol which comes up when the computers loading. Even when it got onto the user desktop everything was enlarged, all the icons, text and google chrome pages where huge. I've had this happen a few times before but it only lasts a few seconds, it mostly occurs when I run the computer in safe mode but again, it lasts for a maximum of 10 seconds before it goes to normal, however, this problem has lasted much longer. I can't remember what the display settings resolution was on, but its on low (800 by 600) pixels. I've tried restarting the computer - nothing changed, everything is still to big for the screen. I tried changing the resolution from low to the next option which makes things fit to the screen but it's not right for the screen since all my screen savers don't work, they just come up with the message "You need a graphics card that uses Direct3D". My graphics card has worked fine and i've used the same wall paper for over 2 years so I don't get why this message would suddenly pop up. Now i'm stuck as to how to get the screen resolution back to its normal config. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated!

  • Answer:

Yes, as Marius says it sounds as though your graphics driver is corrupt. You may need to uninstall it and reinstall with the driver from your manufacturers website (under support/downloads section). Re-installing the driver should fix the problem.

Go to Control Panel -> device manager (in Vista and above, you can simply type it up), and there look for the Display adapters field. Click it, and see what's installed. You might need to reinstall your graphics card drivers. You can find out your monitor's optimum resolution by googleing the make and model.
