VGA Port on my new computer?
-
So I bought a brand new computer, an HPE 400-f and the only input for a monitor on the back is an HDMI input. My monitor only has a VGA output on it, so I needed a VGA port. I noticed that there was two input port that were covered by metal coverings that said, "Do Not Remove." One of them seemed to be the shape of the input port I needed, so I unscrewed it (there was just two screws and it came off easily) and there was a VGA input there. So, I plugged my monitor into it and turned on the monitor and the computer, but the monitor still said no signal even though it was hooked up. The problem is not with the monitor because I tried it on two other monitors (all with VGA output) and none of them worked. I was wondering if there was something I needed to do to get the computer to output to VGA, or any other ideas.

Answer:
According to HP website, you also have a DVI output (http://www.3dflightsim.com/articles/DVI_connector.jpg) It's true you need an adapter but it's better to chose a DVI to VGA adapter then a HDMI to VGA adapter the reason is quite simple : the price The reason you have a VGA output but you cannot use it is that the VGA is in the internal videocard of the motherboard and is working when a graphic card is not present .

I'll give you two choices. The best option is to buy a DVI to VGA adapter (available at most computer stores) that will convert the white connector on your video card (DVI) to something that will take your monitor's VGA cable. The other option is to power down, open up the case and remove the video card. That will reactivate the onboard video which runs the ports that said "do not remove". The onboard video is less powerful than the video card, which is why they were covered and deactivated.

I know this is going to sound weird, but the cover over the non-functioning VGA port says "Do Not Remove" because you're not supposed to remove it. Mind blowing, I know. Also you need an HDMI to VGA adapter. They're about $30 to $40.
The case was manufactured with a built-in connector for VGA. Apparently, it's not connected to anything inside your computer. You either need a new monitor, an accessory VGA adapter, or an HDMI-to-VGA converter (or is it really a DVI output on your PC?)
