How do I hook my computer up to my HDTV?

How Can I Hook My Computer Up To My HDTV Through S-Video?

  • I'm having some troubles with hooking my PC up to my HDTV with S-Video cable... Nothing is showing up, and everything seems to be right... My normal graphics card is a: NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 But I'm using my: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 with S-Video to hook up to my Sharp HDTV. The input is on my TV is on INPUT2 which is the one with S-Video on it. So, what exactly is wrong here?

  • Answer:

Which Sharp HDTV do you have? I got a Sharp LC-42SB45U 42" 1080p LCD HDTV sitting in my guest room, and it has a VGA port. Any visiting houseguests with a laptop can just connect to the HDTV using a standard VGA monitor cable, and it can display 1920x1080. If your Sharp HDTV is anything like mine and has a VGA port, you shouldn't even bother with that S-video garbage. VGA works MUCH BETTER. And even better still, if your graphics cards have DVI, you should be using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, which is a digital video signal.

You need to check your TV's manual to see what resolutions it can support from a PC. Typically you are limited to 1024x768 when connecting through a VGA cable to an HDTV, I expect S-Video is probably the same, though you may need to try lowering the resolution until you get a picture. SVideo's native resolutions are 480i and 576i If your TV has a VGA connection(many do), then your probably better off using that.

When you are plugged up tell the HDTV that you want to be in the PC mode

make sure you go to your display properties and enable the second monitor. that should get you going.

Don't even bother, if you have an hdmi port, on your tv, it would be easier just to get the one wire, DVI to HDMI or the VGA to HDMI. the S video stinks.

You have to go into the NVIDIA display software and tell it to output to external (S video)...

You have to edit your disply properties to set your computer to display to 2 outputs. Right click on your desktop, and select properties. Click on the Settings tab and you'll see to boxes, labeled 1 & 2. You need to click on the second box, as this is the additional monitor you want to display your computer on. Check the box to extend this monitor and apply settings. It should work if the TV's on the correct input. Hope this helps.
