My Monitor Won't Work?

Why wont my monitor work with my computer?

  • I have a 2002 computer which is pretty old, and an old monitor, not the same brand as the computer. I'm guessing the monitor is as old as the computer because of it's size. The computer turns on and so does the monitor. When the monitor is on, but not connected to the computer, the screen says no signal input or something like that. When I plug the monitor into the computer, the monitor screen goes black and the power light flashes green and it just stays like that. can someone help me?

It sounds like the cable may need replacing. When you tell us that you get a message saying "no video input" the monitor is telling you that it is working but not connected to a computer. If you can see if you can't borrow or lend a similar style or type of monitor and try that, if it works then it is your monitor. However I think that if you get a second hand video cable to connect your monitor to your computer it will/should work. The type of cable you are looking for you should be able to pick up second hand and pretty cheap, maybe ask around to see if any of your friends have a spare one they are not using. Good luck
