Web page too wide for monitor screen?

I recently got a new computer with a flat screen monitor, love it but a lot of the web pages come up small.

  • Either in the middle of the screen or over to one side or the other. And the words are small. Like right now the Yahoo Answers is right in the middle of the monitor with about 4" of empty space on either side of the page. It was not like that with my old CRT monitor, a 17", web pages were across the whole screen. Any help will be greatly appreciated. God Bless you all

  • Answer:

What has probably happened is your new monitor is running at a higher resolution, which is giving your computer more space to work with. Your 17" CRT probably had a lower resolution, or pixels displayed. Your new flat screen probably has a higher resolution, or more pixels displayed. This is translated into the extra space you are seeing on many webpages. Most web design is built for lower resolutions, and if someone has a higher resolution screen, it puts a small gradient or design to fill up the space, like Yahoo Answers. Also, a higher resolution will give you a smaller native text size. You can adjust the text size for your browser in your options, too.

Press the "auto" button on the monitor

Linux OS

press the "autoset" button on your screen. Reduce your resolution from what you have it to maybe 1024x768. It is probably on 1280x1024 or higher. right click on desktop then click prperties then click on settings then move the slider to the left until you are at your desired resolution then apply.

You didn't describe your monitor very well but if its about 2 - 3 inches thick you have to set the resolution exactly what the monitor is. Look on the box or Google the make and model it should tell you.The old CRT's you could re size but not the new ones. I hope I explained it so you can understand.

try zooming in on the webpage to make it bigger. If you have a scroll mouse, hold ctrl and scroll the wheel to zoom in and out. If you don;t have a scroll mouse, hold ctrl and press + and - to zoom in and out.
