How can i reset monitor resolution back to normal?

How can I reset screen size + resolution on a dell inspiron?

Hi I have a dell inspiron 1501 - visa home premium - . Earlier today i tried to connect it to an LCD tv. When I attached to SVG cable to the laptop it automatically reset the Monitor all the icons and the browser . How can I reset the laptops screen setting to the Original ones . I've tried to just change the resolution in control panel / display settings . but still a mess . The laptop seems to think its attached to the lcd . I cant figure out the problem at all . Thanks for your help
Answer:

Hold the FN key and press F8 should also help the computer to reset and make it realize that the TV is no longer there, and set it back to single screen mode, and back to its proper resolution.

Right click on desktop and go to screen resolution. Click detect this should make it realize it's no longer attached than adjust settings in there.
