Second Monitor on the laptop?

How do I get a second ,monitor, attached to my laptop, to display exactly what's on the laptop screen?

  • I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. I need to attach a second monitor, and have it display exactly what's on the laptop screen. The second monitor is attached and is working, but it displays only my wallpaper. What do I need to do to get the second monitor to display what's on the laptop screen?

  • Answer:

First, look for a key in the row of f1-f12 keys that has an icon that looks like a monitor or says CRT/LCD. Hold down the "fn" key and press this key, then wait 10 seconds, and if you don't get the desired result, repeat up to 3 times. If that doesn't help, go to the display control panel (start -> control panel), click on the settings tab, click on your second monitor, and uncheck "extend my desktop onto this monitor." if this doesn't work, try right clicking the desktop and chose something like "graphic properties" or "ati control center", and that will launch an assistant to help you.

CheK IT: When you right click your desktop background, look for anything that may say "clone" as a setting. that will be your best bet. It would probably be located in the settings of whatever video card you have.

if you're on windows xp make sure you have multiple displays all set up. Sorry, right click your desktop, and select your video card, or display preferences or something like that(sorry my pc's broken and i've been using a mac for a while so I can't really remember) depending on your video card, if you have nvidia geforce, it should come with an application for settings(should be located in umm the control panel) you can go in there and it should have a tab for setting up multiple displays. If not, then go through the tabs on the whatever preferences thing when you right click the desktop(really sorry about the vaugeness) and it also should have a thing somewhere for multiple displays. Email me for more info or if you can't find it. Really sorry for this crap, I hope it helps anyway.
