Answer:
You can use windex only if you have a CRT screen made of glass. What you must do is lightly spray a soft towel and then wipe and dry the screen. If you have an LCD or plasma screen I would recommend that you not use any household chemicals to clean it. You can use those computer screen wipes that you find in electronics stores or a dry soft towel that does not have any lint on it. Just lightly remove the dust from the LCD or plasma screen and remember absolutely no chemicals or liquids. Liquids can fall behind the screen molding and interfere with the liquid crystal/chemicals behind the screen.

Many of today’s devices feature high-end screens have delicate coatings that require special care. The external layers and coatings of LCD (liquid crystal display) and plasma screens are highly prone to damage from scratches, smudging and clouding caused by the use of common household cleaners. Manufacturers of LCD and plasma displays specifically recommend against using household cleaners because the ammonia and alcohol in them can actually remove the anti-glare layer causing visible screen damage. The SAFE & EFFECTIVE Solution for cleaning LCD & Plasma Screens: Digital Innovations has developed a complete CleanDr product line featuring UltraClear™, an all-natural surfactant (cleaning agent) with no risk of compromising delicate screen coatings or scratching sensitive screen surfaces. Many CleanDr products feature a wet/dry process for improved dust, dirt and oil removal with a streak-free, glare-free finish for today’s advanced displays. CleanDr screen cleaning products are available in many different sizes ranging from a 0.5 oz bottle ($4.99) to 8 oz. bottle ($19.99), all available at http://www.digitalinnovations.com You can read more about the nuts and bolts of screen cleaning under the White Papers link at http://www.digitalinnovations.com Thanks! ~ The Digital Innovations Team ~ #1 Selling Disc Repair Solution on the Market

Is it a LCD or CRT? I don't know for sure, but I think that Windex will work fine, but they make a special LDC brand that might be better. The only thing is DO NOT spray the monitor; spray the cloth and then wipe the monitor.
