Answer:
The LCD/TFT array and the cold cathode fluorescent backlight have different working life expectancy and failure characteristics. The individual LCD elements most probably fail individually giving a slowly degrading image. The backlight usually fails over a short period of a few months ending in total failure. The CCF average working life is 10,000hrs, The LCD array may last 3-5 times longer
