How can I get my laptop to communicate with my projector.?

  • I have an HP laptop that I need to connect to an Epson projector. I have attached the cable properly but it does not recieve any sindgle. Do I need to disable the monitor on the laptop and if so how do I do that. Thanks

  • Answer:

Laptop? it's fn + F5. No I'm not cussin at ya!! (the fn ...function... key is usually on the space bar row, and it's letters are in blue or green) You shouldn't have to do anything with your settings anywhere... ESPECIALLY disabling your laptop display (don't do it!) The key combo of fn+F5 is the built in.... A trick is to slooowwly close the display until it almost closes.. the display will switch over the projector, then open it back up. They'll both flicker for a moment, then they both come on.

You might try (once the laptop is booted and plugged in to the projector) setting the projector to SCAN inputs. Maybe it's not looking for the correct source.

Assuming you have everything powered on and correctly connected, you should have a "Fn" key somewhere on your laptop keyboard. Also look on the bottom right hand corner of each function key. You should see some light grey icons. Look for the function key with the icon that looks like a computer with a slash symbol and an image representing a display. Likely this is the F5 key - it seems to be fairly universal on most laptops. Press and hold the Fn key and then press the F5 key. A couple of things may happen: 1. your projector syncs up with your laptop 2. a small pop up screen may appear with a couple of icons -oth laptop screen/display screen/both Give the projector a few seconds to sync up.

in display properties or dip. options there should be a way to activate another monitor. You have to do this before the laptop will send any info to that projector. You can set up the resolution for the projector. You also need to selct the correct input on the projector. RGB/S-Video/component are all kinds of options. make sure you have the one selected that matches your type of connections.

You need to hold down on the fn key (function key) and press the button up top that says crt/lcd, or in some cases it doesn't say that and instead it has two squares where one is colored in and the other is just the edges. This will tell the laptop to send the video through the vga/dvi port on the back of the laptop to the projector.
