My lcd monitor turns itself off?

My LCD monitor flickers on for a split second then turns off then repeats. Is this a burnt out bulb?

  • I can clearly see windows for just a second and it looks totaly normal. The instant I see windows, the monitor turns off. It's a Compaq FP 7317. It doesn't have to do with the video card cause I tried it out on two other computers and same results occur. I'm duel screening it with the monitor i'm using right now so I know it's not the vid card. Could it be a broken bulb or something like that? I'm thinking it's not because if it was, then I shouldn't be able to see the screen perfectly at all for a second. Loose wires or something?

  • Answer:

When I see this problem occur primarily on laptops it winds up being a bad power inverter. They can be pricey and hard to find for the right model. With the cost of LCD's today I would recommend looking at a new one. Link to Ebay LCD power inverters below.

He isn't very 'educated in tech.' There are bulbs in LCD panels, they are called backlights. They are long bulbs at the bottom of the panel that light up the whole screen. But, this isn't your problem. I would think it's either something is lose, like you said, or a windows problem like mentioned earlier.

Windows continues to really suck. That problem IS a resolution problem! The settings are wrong for that exact monitor. I repeat the problem here, on MY compaq. Also have been able to test this trouble in some of my other systems. Ihave anything between 80 and 90 systems functional here, at any time, for repair, testing, builds...

Did you buy this monitor with the computer? If you are using XP and this is an older monitor it may not be compatible with your puter. Xp doesnt like Old stuff.
