What is a good but inexpensive HD monitor?

Is connecting a 720p laptop to a full hd external monitor a good combination?

  • Since my budget doesn't allow me to buy a laptop with a 1080p screen I was heading toward getting a refurbish 1366 * 768 laptop instead (dell xps l502x). However, am shocked that many people say 720p looks rubbish on a 15.6 laptop. Don't know if its possible to self upgrade a 720p screen with a 1080p screen but my idea is to get a 720p laptop as intended then connect (via hdmi) the laptop to display its desktop on a full hd external monitor to enjoy the 1080p benefit that people with actual 1080p laptop enjoys. I think latop with decent hd dedicated graphic card can output 1080p to a full hd monitor but i may be wrong so my question is that would connecting a 720p laptop to full hd external monitor give 1080p display.

Hi, The simple answer is Yes. The laptops screen display is 1366 x 728(720p) and so by using another monitor which can handle a higher resolution would simply mean adjusting the resolution on your graphics card properties. I've been a multimedia technician for 8 years and i can tell you that 1080p on a 15 inch screen is pointless thats why most laptops with screens that size or lower don't do 1080p. Its just to small to notice any difference. Connect it up to a large screen and you'll notice a difference certainly - Thats just my opinion hope it helps!
