How to connect my laptop to my tv using a hdmi to hdmi cable ?

Did you try to hit fn F7 (it might be F8 it looks like a monitor)

first you need to learn to ask a question better, but that is for another time. i'm going to assume you are using windows because everyone is...first! make sure that your tv is set to the hdmi port, then second go into your display settings...and enable split screen. this will allow you to run on your computer monitor AND your tv if that does not work, you probably messed something up and you should start over...and if that does not work try jiggling the cable, CABLES LOVE TO BE JIGGLED so they may just be playing with you. oh those cables!

Generally, once you plug in the HDMI in both ends, the TV and laptop should recognize the connection. Are you setting the TV to the correct source? If set to the correct source on your TV but still not working, try going to: Start -> Control Panel -> NVIDIA or ATI Control Panel You'll have to dig around the control panel

There should be a certain function key at the top of your key pad. My laptop has the function on (f2). You should be able to press (fn + f?)---In my case fn + f2 for the switch. The character looks like a box with a line on the left and right side of it.

you may need to change the input on your tv so that it knows to collect data from the HDMI. some lap tops actually have a button that you have to press....i wouldn't know where to tell you exactly to find it - what kind of laptop is it?

The fact that you think you are "on the right channel" probably means that you are not (since HDMI has no channels). With the laptop off connect them HDMI to HDMI, turn your TV on and make sure it is set for that HDMI port for input (source), then boot your computer. If all goes well, your laptop will display on your TV. Otherwise if you do not have any icon in lower right of your screen related to video, you could right click on the computer desktop, select Properties, and there is probably something there to set up either your laptop screen, external monitor (TV), or both (mirrored or as extended desktop). Once it is configured there is probably a Fn key combination to switch them.
